Name compatibility converts each name into a number and compares the results. The difference is given a symbolic relationship meaning. It is an exercise for reflection, not a reliable test of whether two people belong together.
Calculating two name numbers
Letters receive values from 1 to 9. Add the values in each name and reduce the result. The table and method are explained in our guide to name numbers. Calculate both results there, then return to compare them.
For this exercise, use your everyday names. “Alex” and “Alexander” contain different letters and give different calculations. This does not mean one name determines the relationship more accurately; it is simply a chosen convention.
The difference between two numbers
Subtract the smaller number from the larger and find the difference below:
